“Listen to Your Heart” is a power ballad by the Swedish pop duo Roxette, composed by Per Gessle and Mats Persson. It was released as the second single from their second studio album, “Look Sharp!” in 1988.
The song features Marie Fredriksson on lead vocals, with Gessle providing backup vocals and playing guitar. It starts with a slow, contemplative piano intro, building up to a powerful chorus with Fredriksson’s soaring vocals. The lyrics advise the listener to follow their heart and not their head when it comes to matters of love.
“Listen to Your Heart” was a huge commercial success, reaching the top 10 in several countries, including the US, UK, Australia, and Germany. It peaked at number 1 in Canada and Sweden. The song’s music video features the band performing on a stage, with various shots of Fredriksson and Gessle singing against a dramatic backdrop.
Over the years, “Listen to Your Heart” has become a classic ballad and a staple of 80s pop music. It has been covered by several artists and featured in numerous films, television shows, and commercials. Roxette continued to enjoy international success throughout the 90s, with hits such as “It Must Have Been Love” and “Joyride.”
